What To Do When The Haters Come Out

I got my first hater today! That’s probably something I shouldn’t just announce out loud and be excited about, but I am! After all this time doing Facebook Ads for myself and my clients, I FINALLY got my first snarky comment. I’m surprised it’s never happened before, but here I am excited that it has. I’m happy for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that in the online marketing industry, it’s like a badge of honor. You haven’t been online long enough until you start getting condescending, “who do you think you are?” comments. It’s like a sign that you’ve paid your dues.

The second reason why I’m excited about this is that I must be doing something right and really making a name for myself. Let me be upfront here; we’re not in business to be liked. We’re in business to make a difference in the world and to help other people. In my case, it’s to help other online entrepreneurs get their work seen in front of their ideal clients using Facebook Ads. When my clients help people with their products and services, it can start a positive chain reaction and ripple effect in the world we live in. That’s why I’m in business. Josh Norman, the cornerback for the Carolina Panthers, used this phrase and simply put, it fits nicely why I’m excited to get my first hater on my Facebook Ad.

If you don’t have haters, you ain’t poppin’.

That sounds so simple right? But yet it’s so true! Now that I have my first hater (and more to come I’m sure), I know I’m on the right track. Instead of being a negative experience and one that could upset me, it’s more like a mile marker telling me that I’m close to my destination. If you get a hater (which you will), rejoice in it. That means you’re on the path of what you’re meant to do and you’re getting closer to knowing exactly what it is and what you do.
